FIRST, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is a program focused on inspiring students to become more Officialfrclogoinvolved in Science and Technology. This unique and innovative program helps teach students the skills needed to pursue careers in science, engineering, technology, and math while also providing opportunities to foster self-confidence, knowledge and life skills. FIRST encourages its teams to follow the ideals of gracious professionalism and Cooperation, keeping a competitive spirit between the teams while showing respect and kindness to each other.
Within FIRST there are different programs, each caters to a certain age groups, the FIRST Lego League for elementary though Jr. High students, the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) for Jr High-H.S. and the FIRST Robotics Program (FRC) that involves primarily high school students only. Team 4176 is part of the FRC program where students are presented with a new game each year, and have six weeks to build a robot able to compete in the game. FIRST changes student's life and opens doors for their future by providing valuable experiences not found anywhere else.
